How it works

Listen, read aloud, celebrate.

01

Listen first

Clear, page-by-page narration with words that light up, so even the youngest listeners can follow along.

02

Read aloud

Your child hears a line, then says it. One short line at a time.

Celebrate every try

Stars and a quick word of cheer after each try. If a line is tricky, the app offers one more gentle try—then moves on.

Stars and encouragement after reading aloud

One picture question after every story

See what they understood.

After the last page, one simple picture question helps your child recall what happened—and gives you something to talk about together.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

The app is a free download. Choose any 2 books to keep free forever. The full library is available by subscription: in the US, $9.99/month, $26.99 for 3 months, or $84.99/year. Prices in other regions may differ and are always shown in the App Store before purchase. You can cancel anytime in your Apple ID settings.

Are there ads?

No. Echo Storybooks has no ads.

Does the app record my child’s voice?

The app does not retain voice recordings and does not send recordings or recognized text to our servers. Read-aloud mode uses your device’s speech recognition, which Apple may process according to your device settings. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Does my child have to read aloud?

No. Every story works in listening mode, and listening works without microphone access. Reading aloud is always an invitation, never a requirement.

Which devices does it work on? Do we need an account?

Echo Storybooks works on iPhone and iPad. No account or sign-up is needed. Books you have already downloaded may also be available offline.

Is it good for kids learning English as a second language?

Yes. Many families use the narration as a clear model to listen to and repeat, even when parents are not confident reading English aloud themselves.

Are the stories available in other languages?

Yes. Every story also has a Japanese edition with the same pictures, which you can switch to in the library. Raising a bilingual child? See our guide for English–Japanese families.
